TOOELE, Utah (ABC 4 News) – It was a frightening morning for a 4 year-old Tooele boy. Police said early Thursday morning he was kidnapped from his home.

Fortunately he was found not long after and two people have since been arrested.

Police say around 5 a.m. the boy was taken from his home at 810 Uintah Avenue.

"The mother said an acquaintance came into the home an argument ensued and he said I’m taking the child,” said Officer Paul Wimmer, Tooele Police.

Police say the suspect, Shawn Bergeron, 35 was with Stephanie Goff, 22, when they took the boy to a home at 521 N. Erickson Road in Tooele.

Police said the boy's mom called 911 immediately and less than an hour and a half later police tracked the suspects and the boy's location.

“A female suspect came out first, she let us know the child was inside and we were able to go in and get the child,” said Wimmer.  “He was definitely was upset and happy to return home to mom.”

A family member who didn’t want their identity known told ABC 4’s Kim Johnson the boy is in good spirits. “He told me he had an adventure, the family is just grateful everything worked out okay.”

As for the motive of the kidnapping, police say that remains unclear. “The stories we're getting are quite different from each side,” said Wimmer. “It’s hard to identify the true reason for the motive behind taking the child.”

Bergeron and Goff are in the Tooele County jail and have been charged with kidnapping.
