2 Utah teachers honored with Presidential Awards

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Two Utah teachers are among 97 to receive Presidential Awards for Excellence for their contributions in math and science.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Two Utah teachers are among 97 to receive Presidential Awards for Excellence for their contributions in math and science.

James Larson has been a middle school science and mathematics teacher at J.E. Cosgriff Memorial Catholic School the past eight years. He spent the previous 21 years as a petroleum engineer in Salt Lake City.

Vivian Shell has taught middle and high school mathematics in the Salt Lake City School District for 15 years. She has spent the past four years at the Salt Lake Center for Science Education.

The honors are the highest bestowed by the U.S. government for K-12 mathematics and science teaching. All winners were honored recently with a trip to the White House and $10,000 from the National Science Foundation.
