SALT LAKE CITY, (ABC 4 Utah) – A Salt Lake City couple is raising awareness about being a bone marrow donor through their program “Share the Health, Share the Wealth” and the Iron Man World Championships.

Logan and Kristen Clifford are trying to win a spot for Logan to participate in the world championships in Kona, Hawaii in October 2013. The public can vote for their video called “Cancer, Baby, Bone Marrow,” which shares their story.

Just as Logan started training for the Whistler Iron Man competition, Kristen found out her thyroid cancer returned in November 2012.

One week later the couple found out they were expecting their first child. Two weeks later Logan found out he was a match to donate his bone marrow and save someone’s life.

The couple chose to hold off on treating Kristen’s’ cancer until after their baby is born. Logan moved forward with the bone marrow donation.

They created the program, “Share the Health, Share the Wealth,” to raise money and awareness about becoming a bone marrow donor. They’re using the Iron Man world championship competition called Kona Inspired as a platform to spread awareness.

Voting ends Thursday, June 27 at midnight.
