COLORADO CITY, Arizona (ABC 4 News) – Ruby Jessop had been trying to escape the Fundamental Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for over a decade and just weeks ago she became free.

Jessop, 26, was born into a twisted world controlled by polygamous sect leader Warren Jeffs.

Her sister, Flora, had reached out to the Arizona Attorney General’s Office in 2001 saying her sister was being held against her will somewhere in southern Utah or northern Arizona.

At the time, officials could not find Ruby.

Ruby was 14 when she was forced to marry her step-brother in Hilldale, Utah. Jeff’s himself officiated the ceremony.

Ruby had six children with her half-brother husband and continued to endure mental and sexual abuse.

Through the efforts of the Arizona Attorney General’s Office, Ruby was rescued last month. She has just been granted temporary custody of her children.

Because Jeff’s is jailed in Texas he did not comment on the case and the FLDS church does not have a spokesperson to speak on its behalf.
