SLC, UTAH - A young West Valley couple is home safe Monday after getting lost and having to spend Sunday night on Mt. Olympus.

Tired hungry and thirsty Anthony Garcia and Mariah Cox were rescued by search crews after getting lost and spending nearly 14 hours on Mt. Olympus.

The couple tells ABC 4 Utah they didn’t have much water, and were not very prepared. About two hours into their hike Garcia and Cox say they ran out of water. The West Valley couple age 21 and 20 went up the trail at 4 o'clock Sunday and nearly five hours later realized they were in trouble.  "We thought we were going to find another trail and then we realized we were really lost,” says Cox. It was at that point the couple, knowing their phones were near dead, called 911 for help.

Lt. John Barker with the Unified Police Department says "We use the term called cliffed out where you can't go up and you can't go down," says Lt. Barker. He says three search and rescue units started looking for the couple at 9 Sunday night and escorted them off the mountain just before 5:30 Monday morning. Lt. Barker says he doesn't recommend the trail due to the steep terrain.  “It's straight up and the higher you get the steeper it gets and coming down is worse than going up because your feet and your toes are banging against your shoes and it can be quite brutal and there's no shade," Says Lt. Barker.

As for Garcia and Cox, they tell ABC 4 Utah they do not plan on hiking again anytime soon, but are thankful to those who rescued them. "We were kind of stuck in a little awkward spot where they couldn't find us. It took them like half an hour to get to us too from where they could see us. So we appreciate them for sure."
