"There is in my mind no excuse for anyone to be running around the country with military style assault weapons," said Fred Hoare, for gun control.
"If the government can have rocket launchers and everything else we should be able to have anything the government has," said Gary Boslough, against gun control.
Split down the middle, people's opinions on gun control here in Utah are polarizing. Wednesday, Reporter Brian Carlson told people the President's plan to come up with a gun control proposal no later than January so he can push it into law without delay.
"The fact that we can't prevent every act of violence doesn't mean that we can't steadily reduce violence, and prevent the very worst violence," said President Obama.
After watching the tragic shooting in Connecticut some Utahns agree with the President, something needs to be done.
"You can't just make it all go away, but..." said Melinda Adamson, for gun control.
"Hopefully it'll make a difference?" asked Brian Carlson.
"Hopefully it'll make a little difference, yes," replied Adamson.
"It won't stop the problem, but it'll certainly make it better," said Hoare.
But others said cracking down on guns and gun sales isn't the answer.
"I think it should stay the way it is," said Margaret Boslough, against gun control.
"It's not a gun control problem, it's not a mental health problem, I think there's an x-factor there that we don't know about yet," said Gary Boslough.
"You don't think it's a gun control issue, you think it's a security issue?" asked Carlson.
"Absolutely," said Misty Zemp, against gun control.
Regardless where Utahns stand on guns, its doesn't appear they'll agree any time soon.
"If the principal had a gun things might have been different," said Boslough.
"This notion we need to arm our teachers is absurd," said Hoare.
