Rhee Braby, who shot the video, says at least 30 cars were involved in eight different accidents. Within minutes, Braby says 400 North turned into a slip and slide, with cars and trucks crashing into each other. In one crash, a car came hurtling down the street and slammed into a plow truck. "It was bad, it was really bad," says Braby.
Braby's video has received over 70-thousand hits on www.youtube.com.
400 North is one of Bountiful's busiest streets, leading to homes and straight up the mountain towards the LDS Bountiful temple. According to police, the street is not the problem. Sgt. Dave Edwards with the Bountiful Police Deptartment says people need to slow down and use more common sense. "It's well maintained with plows. People are very familiar with it. Yesterday the conditions changed from rain to snow, and that's what started our problems."
When asked if more warning signs placed at different points along the road would help, Sgt. Edwards said that it wouldn't. He says the city is doing all it can to help prevent accidents along the busy stretch of road. "Signage doesn't really apply here. It's really more about common sense," says Edwards.
No one was injured in Saturday's crashes. ABC 4 attempted to reach the Bountiful Mayor's office for comment, but no calls were returned.
