Salt Lake Police searching for attempted kidnapper

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 Utah) – The search is on for a man who tried to kidnap a woman in Salt Lake City Tuesday.
SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 Utah) – The search is on for a man who tried to kidnap a woman in Salt Lake City Tuesday.

A Salt Lake neighborhood is in shock. Tuesday morning a woman was nearly kidnapped in the area of 9th North and 19th West.

"That's hard core stuff," said Carlos Zavala, neighbor.

"I'm scared," said Yadira Alvarado, neighbor.

"This just proves you can live anywhere and stuff can happen," said Crystal Polanco, neighbor.

Police said around 8:00 a.m. a woman had just dropped off her children at school, and was walking home along on Morton Drive when a man in his car pulled up, got out and tried to kidnap her.

"He exits the car, grabs the woman by the arm and attempts to drag her into his car," said Det. Mike Hamideh, Salt Lake City Police.

Police said the woman put up a fight and eventually got away. The only problem is so did the attempted kidnapper.

He's described as a Polynesian man, between 18-21 years old, 5-6" - 5-8", 200-220 lbs with a heavy muscular build. He was seen wearing a white t-shirt with green stripes.

Police said they need your help to find him.

"We're asking anyone with information to come forward," said Hamideh.

And people in the neighborhood hope that you do.

“It really brings a concern to me, especially with my husband, because he doesn’t want me walking the kids to school and then one day you get abducted,” said Polanco.

"I don't want anyone to do that to me," said Zavala.

“I’m the one taking care of them, so if anything happens to me then nobody is going to pick them up from school,” said Alvarado.

If you've seen the man Salt Lake Police are looking for, call 801-799-3000.
