RSL on historic goal scoring pace

SANDY, Utah (ABC 4 Sports) - Real Salt Lake leads MLS in goals, and is on pace to set a franchise record.
SANDY, Utah (ABC 4 Sports) - Real Salt Lake has been scoring goals at a record-breaking rate this season.

RSL leads Major League Soccer with 39 goals, and is on pace to score 55 goals, which would shatter the franchise record of 46.

"We're creating a lot more chances in the final third," said Nat Borchers. "Javier [Morales], Ned [Grabavoy] and Kyle [Beckerman] have been very active in creating those goal scoring chances. And then, look at our depth up top. We've got five guys that can step up there and score goals."

In fact, Real Salt Lake has five players (Alvaro Saborio, Olmes Garcia, Robbie Findley, Morales and Grabavoy) who have scored at least five goals. That has never happened before, and there is a chance that list may grow to seven or eight players by season's end.

"I think we have more options," Morales said. "If Sabo is with his national team, we have Garcia. If Robbie can't play, we have [Joao] Plata, so we have a lot of choices."

"I just think we have a very talented group of forwards this year," added Tony Beltran. "But it's not just them. Our midfielders are stepping up too, so we're getting goals from all over the place."

Real has also scored at least one goal in 19 straight games, another franchise record. RSL hasn't been shut out since April 27th.

"We've been deadly in the attack," said Luis Gil. "I still feel like we can do more, but we've got different guys scoring a lot. That's good because it means we're moving the ball around."

Despite their proficiency for finding the back of the net, RSL isn't satisfied. They know they're going to have to keep up this pace in order to stay at the top of the league and win the Supporter's Shield.

"We have to continue it," said Beckerman. "We've got an important part of the season coming up. So, like we always do, we have to keep improving each game and we've got two big games coming up this week."

Real Salt Lake (12-7-5) hits the road Saturday night to take on the L.A. Galaxy at 8:30 p.m. The game will be televised on ABC 4 Utah.
