Beckerman scored his first goal in the 46th minute off a deflection on a Javier Morales free kick to RSL a 1-0 halftime lead.
Devon Sandoval and Luis Gil both found the back of the net in the second half, while Beckerman added his second goal of the contest in the 89th minute as Real cruised to the victory.
"Our big focus was to come out and bring as much energy as we could," said Beckerman. "We knew we had some heavy legs out there, but we felt like if we could get on them early and really keep the pressure on them, we would eventually open them up."
RSL had won just one of its previous six MLS matches, but dominated the Crew from the outset. Columbus managed just one shot on goal the entire game, as Nick Rimando recorded his 8th clean sheet of the season.
"It's definitely nice," said Sandoval, who scored his second goal of the season off a crossing pass from Olmes Garcia. "Our goal coming into this game was to have an all-around performance, and I think we did that."
''It's good that we're getting back into our rhythm," said Gil. "It feels to get the shutout. We haven't had one of those in a while, so it always feels good to do that."
Real improves to 13-8-6 on the year, and with a league high 45 points, stays in the lead in the race for the Supporter's Shield.
RSL next hosts Portland August 31st.
