SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC 4 Utah)- October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Utahns are getting involved. The Allstate Foundation along with YWCA, one of the oldest women's organization in the United States, have selected Utah to be a part of the Purple Purse campaign.

Utah will get 10 Purple Purses that will be passed from person to person throughout the month of October. Each time the purse is passed along the new holder can check it in on their website, and earn a five dollar donation from Allstate.

If the purses get passed 1,000 times Allstate Foundation will double the donations already earned, along with a $10,000 grant. Along with real purses, virtual purses can also be passed on the Facebook page to earn donations.

The Purple Purses passed to community members, friends, neighbors, and family are meant to get people talking about Domestic Violence, raising awareness for the one out of every four women who will be affected in their lifetime.
