Seven years ago Susan Petersen was looking for a way to support her family.
Susan explained, "When my husband was in school I sold stuff online to make extra money."
That quest for extra money has turned into an entire company that Susan built, although she never stepped foot in a business class in college.
While she admits she might lack training Susan said, "I'm not good at a lot of things, but i'm good at hustling."
Now this mom leads a successful business making an impact in the children clothing world!
It started with a need to find shoes for susan's babies, "I really wanted a pair of moccasins and I couldn't find a pair that I liked." So, she made some!
Susan explained, "I had a bag of scrap leather - I made a pattern and just started making them."
Pictures of the final product made it online and people loved them. Susan started selling moccasins out of her basement.
She had found a way to make extra money for her family, without leaving her family. And her family has remained the focus of everything she does, "It always has been to provide for my family."
Now, six years later, you see Freshly Picked Moccasins on children all over the country. Even the Kardashian babies are sporting Susan's mocs. About 500 pairs of shoes a week are coming out of her basement office in Provo.
Susan said, "It is very surreal, it feels really awesome."
Susan has had to work hard to get where she is now. And she is a firm believer, success can happen if you are willing to work.
Susan's best advice to anyone looking to start their own company: "Get clear on the life you want and run like hell toward it."
