SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Six years ago a British reality show premiered in the US, featuring celebrities being transformed into dancers.

For one Utah dancer, Louis van Amstel, this meant that his life was about to change in a major way.

"When they called me from England to do Dancing With The Stars I was ecstatic because I really quit my dance career very early in life," Louis said. "I was hoping for a moment like this."

Louis had just left New York and was settling down in Orem. He thought his dancing days were over and he was planning on teaching and coaching young Utah ballroom dancers when he got the call about the show.

"So when we started season one, the first week everybody was so nervous, ABC, the production company, BBC, all the dancers, the celebrities, cause no one knew how the general public, how America would you know, perceive Dancing With The Stars," said Louis.

America definitely showed its support for the show with its 13.5 million viewers. Twelve seasons later, the country is tuning in weekly to see how celebrities translate their talents into dancing.

"The doors have opened because not only are you a teacher with your celebrity, you make her grow," said Louis.

This growth can also lead to pain.

"Sometimes there’s a point when you don’t like your partner in situations and even with Kendra with situations in week 4...because of those situations you actually become even closer," said Louis.

Louis has had 8 celebrity partners but there is one in particular who will always hold a special place in Louis' heart.

He said, "I can honestly say that none of my other celebrity partners would disagree with me if I say that Kelly Osbourne is by far the favorite. I think of all celebrities ever on Dancing With The Stars, she has literally put her life on the line. She has opened up every aspect of her life and to me that is such an inspiration that Dancing With The Stars gives you."

Now Louis is ready to give America the chance to experience a little bit of the Dancing With The Stars transformation.

"I designed, I invented a dance fitness class called LaBlast, four years ago I started in a small little dance studio and now we’re going nation wide and soon we’re going world wide," said Louis.

Even with his LaBlast going world wide, people in Utah can still expect Louis to be here every so often.

"I love Utah...I’m not going to leave, I actually own a house there as you know and I love it," Louis said. "There’s too many reasons why I love Utah and if you take the dancing away, I still have enough reason to go because many of friends that I love and I love the nature and I love skiing."
