It was a packed house celebrating a program many in Salt Lake City have worked years to make a reality.
Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker said, "I've taken on to make sure we have really great bikeway systems."
The mayor is one of the bike plan's biggest advocates dubbing 2013 'The Year of the Bike' in Salt Lake City.
Mayor Becker said, "You shouldn't have to drive to get around downtown."
That goal is becoming a reality especially when the addition of the Green Bikes. Now giving you the chance to rent a bike, hop on and cruise.
Ben Bolte, Bike Share Director, said, "I don't know why you wouldn't do it. It's so much easier than walking on your knees."
Ben has been working on this program for two years and while he's excited, there have been questions on it really happening and preparation for potential problems.
Bolte said, "If it can work in DC, I'm pretty sure it can work here in Salt Lake City."
The parts of this bike will not work on any other bike. And in order to borrow one, you have to swipe your credit card at one of the kiosks. If you decide to keep the bike, you'll be charged the price of the bike.
