Police, Volunteers Search For Missing 13-Year-Old

HERRIMAN, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Authorities and dozens of volunteers spent Wednesday afternoon searching for a missing teen girl, who disappeared from her Herriman home.
HERRIMAN, Utah (ABC 4 News) - The search is on Wednesday to find a missing Herriman girl who is believed to be under-dressed for the harsh cold weather.

Right now no one can find 13 year old Brooklyn Gittins of Herriman.

"The friends that she has, the acquaintances that she has, the places she could go or would go, she's not there," said Lt. Justin Hoyal, Unified Police Dept.

Brooklyn was last seen at 8:40 p.m. Tuesday night when she went to bed, but when her family woke up Wednesday morning, she was gone.

"She didn't have any shoes, she didn't take her seeing eye glasses, she didn't take her cell phone, and is gone," said Hoyal.

Police believe Brooklyn may have run away into the cold wearing only a t-shirt and pajama pants, and her family is worried.

"Our family is concerned and hope she comes home soon," said Craig Miller, Brooklyn's grandfather.

Her friends are upset.

"She's just really sweet and fun to be around and it's hard to think that she would run away or something," said Ambria Jessop, Brooklyn's friend.

So far the state rescue helicopter, 20 firefighters, and 60 police officers are all searching for her. If Brooklyn doesn't show up Wednesday night, Unified Police said they're going to need help from volunteers.

"If we still have not located Brooklyn tonight, and I pray that we do, but if we have not, we will then recontact (the news) and seek additional volunteers for an activation of a major search in the morning," said Sheriff Jim Winder, Salt Lake County Sheriff.

But if for any reason Brooklyn is reading this report her friends want her to know they care and want her back.

"I just want you to know that I love you and miss you and hope you come home soon," said Sami Jessop, Brooklyn's friend.

Brooklyn is about 110 lbs has blonde hair, blue eyes, and was last seen wearing a gray Lake Powell t-shirt and black pajama pants, with no coat or no shoes. If you know where she is call the Unified Police tip line at 801-743-7280.
