Riverdale Police responded to reports of suspicious activity at JoAnn Fabrics in Riverdale where they say they found 35-year-old Gordon Graham and his fiancee 28-year-old Celeste Hart with a stolen car.
Police put handcuffs on Graham and placed him in the back of a police car. Graham slipped out of his handcuffs and climbed through a narrow partition separating the drivers area from the back seat as police talked with Hart and processed the car. The opening was twelve inches by 14 inches, according to Riverdale Police Lieutenant James Ebert.
Ebert says Graham sped toward an officer at a high rate of speed and missed him by only 8 to 10 inches. Graham then jumped the car over a burm and landed on a near-by road damaging the front end of the vehicle. He lost police because they had to drive several feet to the nearest area to enter the road.
“I looked up and I see this police car coming through the intersection slamming on the brakes and the guy jumped out and went running down 2550,” said Terry Thackeray.
The stolen Riverdale Police Car was found a short time later in Roy at 2550 West 6075 South. The car was running. It's doors were open and the windsheild wipers were on.
Police closed off the area and began searching for Graham, but eventually called off the search. A neighbor called police when they saw him climb out of nearby bushes and run away.
He was later arrested in the afternoon about 1.5 miles southeast in Clinton at 1460 North 630 West.
Graham yelled at an ABC 4 Utah camera as it captured his arrest, “This is what drugs gets you guys.”
Graham and Hart say their love for one another is undying and they will eventually marry.
