Rape, kidnapping suspect arrested in Provo

PROVO, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Police say a California man has been arrested and now faces rape charges after he kidnapped a woman out of Colorado.
PROVO, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Police say a California man has been arrested and now faces rape charges after he kidnapped a woman out of Colorado.

Police say a woman who was taken against her will from the Denver, Colorado area escaped from the suspect in Provo on Wednesday night.

According to police, officers responded to an open field near 100 North 3000 West after receiving a report of a woman who claimed she had escaped from a man who had kidnapped her.

Police say that when officers arrived, the victim said that she had been raped by the suspect, and that the suspect had fallen asleep, allowing her to escape.

Police say the victim ran to a nearby home and asked the residents to call the police.

When investigators arrived, police say the victim told them that the suspect was still sleeping in an open field west of 100 North 3000 West, where the suspect had stopped at a campsite next to the suspect's vehicle.

Police say that officers located the campsite and took the suspect into custody while he slept.

Police say the told investigators she met the suspect in Denver Colorado on Monday, and that the suspect offered her a ride to her cousin's home in Colorado.

According to police, the victim accepted, but after a few hours, she realized that the suspect was leaving Colorado.

Police say that when the victim questioned the suspect, he assaulted her, and told her she was going to stay with him.

While traveling through Utah, police say the victim said she was raped at a rest stop somewhere on US Highway 6 or Interstate 70.

Police say that the victim claims she and the suspect spent Tuesday driving north and south on Interstate-15 shopping at Walmart locations.

Police say that the victim claims she did not feel that she could safely escape from the suspect until Wednesday, when at approximately 8:00 p.m., the suspect and victim stopped near 100 North 3000 West in Provo, where the victims claims that the suspect raped her again.

Police say the victim did not show any signs of injury.

Police say the suspect, Winston Lacourse, was arrested and taken to the Utah County Jail with the requested charge of rape.

Police say Lacourse is 49 years old from Desert Hot Springs, California.

Police say that the kidnapping and possible illegal activities at the Walmart stores were still under investigation.
