MARRIOT-SLATERVILLE, Utah (ABC 4 News) – A 4-year-old Marriot-Slaterville girl is recovering from levels of alcohol in her system high enough to cause her distress.

She was transported to Mckay Dee Hospital and later moved to Primary Children’s Medical Center in Salt Lake City.

ABC 4 visited the girl’s neighborhood where she lives to talk with neighbors who witnessed the police response Thursday.

One neighbor says there were ten police cars and several Crime Scene Investigators in the area of 1045 South 1200 West where the 4-year-old girl lived with her family.

“I saw a whole bunch of people talking. The cops and CSI were everywhere,” says Aujalee Spencer.

Several neighbors say their primary focus was a trash bin. Miss Barfuss says she approached one of the officers to throw her trash away during the investigation.

“So I asked the guy that was wrapping up the garbage. I said, ‘Can I throw my trash away?’ He said, ‘Not right now,’” Miss Barfuss said.

Apparently police wanted to preserve something in the trash bin as evidence.

Neighbors say the victim is a special needs girl who uses a wheel chair and who required home health care.

News of her apparent intoxication spread fast.

“I was in just in shock. I didn’t know if it was on purpose. They weren’t watching their kids. I wasn’t sure what to think,” said neighbor Danielle Carson.

The Weber County Sheriff’s Department is releasing few details as the investigation continues into its second day.

The unanswered questions are stirring fear in other parents.

“I kind of don’t want to let them outside,” said Carson.

The Weber County Sheriff’s Department continued to interview the victim’s family Friday night.
