WEST JORDAN, Utah (ABC 4 News) – A West Jordan woman said her friend is recovering from numerous surgeries, after he allegedly caused a crash that sent a family of four to the hospital on Christmas Eve night.

Tammy Coles said her friend Tom was driving a red suburban that jumped a median, side swiped a car, and hit another car head-on on 9000 South.

“I know Tom is deeply sorry,” Coles said. “He was on his way to go to his family Christmas party and buy his mom Christmas gift.”

West Jordan police said they are waiting on toxicology results, which may take three to eight weeks. They did not find any traces of alcohol at the crash site.

The crash sent the Pack family of American Fork to the hospital. As of Tuesday, Kelly Pack remained in critical condition. Ryan Pack is in stable condition. Their 3-year-old son Finn was released from the hospital. Their youngest, 1-year-old Colum Pack, died as a result of his injuries.

“We just want them to know we feel in our hearts for them too,” Coles said. “I just know that Tom wants them to know that he is sorry.”
