Downtown prepares for record breaking crowds this weekend

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) - Downtown is preparing for some record breaking crowds this weekend. A number of big events are coming to Salt Lake City.
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) - Downtown is preparing for some record breaking crowds this weekend.  A number of big events are coming to Salt Lake City. Wednesday a meeting was held to talk about how to accommodate all the extra traffic. The downtown Alliand, Utah Transit Authority and the Salt Lake Transportation Division says carpool and public transportation is best. 

Comic-Con, Twilight Concert Series and the Greek Festival are just three of the main events kicking off Thursday. Comic-Con alone is expecting to draw 45,000 people in the four days it is taking place at the Convention Center. Plus, the Twilight Concert series at Pioneer Park attracts 40,000 people. On top of that, the Greek festival is expecting 50,000 people and on Saturday you can expect to throw in another 5,000 at the Disney Pirate and Princess Adventure show. Plus, don’t forget about the 8,000 attendees at the downtown Farmers Market.

"We are going to add TRAX trains to from our normal two trains to three and four trains. We are also going to have other trains standing by so we can add trains to the line as needed,” says Remi Barron from the Utah Transit Authority.

Frontrunner service will also be increased on Saturday after 1p.m.  Biking downtown is strongly encouraged and if you do drive, plan ahead. Visit http://www.parking slc.com for a list of parking available and prices.Free street and some garage parking will also be available.
