WASHINGTON STATE (ABC 4 News) - A new Facebook fan page called "Attractive Mormon Youth" is generating praise from teens and concern from at least one mother.
It features a new young member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints every day complete with a full name and hometown location.
ABC 4 found pictures for Gopeh Etenfa from Nigeria, Kenzie Reece from Hawaii and Dane Markham from Alaska.
The page's creator is 17-year-old boy from Washington State. His name is Tommy N. (He doesn't want to release his full name).
"It's based on what I think attractiveness is," said Tommy about the Facebook fan page.
Tommy says true attractiveness is from within. He says it's cultivated by living Jesus Christ's teachings as he says he believes were restored by Jesus Christ through leaders in the Latter-day Saint Church.
Tommy personally picks each picture and posts it to the Facebook page. Mitch Morris' post reads, "He is always on the look out for someone who might need a friend."
Tommy says his aim is to highlight the good in this world to help it grow. He says most of the reaction is positive. One girl wrote, 'I'm so glad I can come here and see all these guys that have great standards that I can meet eventually.'" Tommy says he especially reaching out the Latter-day Saint teens who live in areas with little or no there Latter-day Saints. He's trying to build an online community of support and love.
However, a Provo parent is sharing concern for those featured on the Facebook fan page. "I don't think that it's safe," said Cindy Lindsay.
She fears a predator could find and track down one of the "Attractive Mormon Youth" featured on the page.
"He (Tommy) needs to realize there are repercussions to putting this person's information on a public form for anyone to see," Lindsay said.
Her feedback posted to the site is quickly removed and Facebook's investigations reveals no wrongdoing. The pictures will continue to be posted to the delight of some and the frustration of Lindsay.
Tommy says he will never post an address or phone number.
