West Valley City teen released from hospital after stabbing

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (ABC 4 News) – Police continue to investigate suspects in connection with the stabbing of a teenager, a day after he was released from the hospital on Friday.

A 13-year-old boy was attacked by a group of boys and beaten Thursday in his neighborhood. The boy was stabbed twice in the neck.

Doctors said if the stab wounds had been just a half inch in another direction the teen could have been paralyzed for life.

West Valley City Police said the suspects may have thought the teen was someone else, resulting in a mistaken identity attack. The teen was targeted because he was wearing a red shirt.

“We’re receiving information that the entire incident has gang overtones that maybe because of the colors the kids were wearing that might have spurred the original assault,” Scott Buchanan, with WVC Police said.

The teen’s family told ABC4 News they are hopeful he will make a full recovery.

“He’s a warrior,” the teen’s brother said. “I know he is going to recover.”
