New Mom Talks About Bell's Palsy

Shannon Bird talks about her diagnosis of Bell's Palsy shortly after the birth of her second child.
Shannon Bird had a baby on June 3, 2013, her second child.  One week later her face started feeling numb.

Turns out, she has Bell's Palsy.  Bell's Palsy is a disorder of the nerve that controls movement of the muscles in the face. This nerve is called the facial or 7th cranial nerve. Damage to this nerve causes weakness or paralysis of these muscles.

Shannon says her doctor told her it could go away, or it may be with her forever.

Shannon says it has been a very hard thing for her because she can't eat normally without holding her chin to help her chew.  She can't fully smile either.

She says the only thing that helps to keep her from getting "down" is thinking that her baby was born healthy.

If you'd like to follow Shannon's Journey she has a blog: Birdalamode.com.
