In a new hit piece from the "anybody but Romney" folks at Newsmax.com, it is explained that Romney is not a Christian and Mormonism is like Islam.
Oh, and Joseph Smith Jr. is Muhammad.
Their source? Dr. Richard Land, the president of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention with an assist from Reverend Franklin Graham.
Dr. Land said, “Perhaps the most charitable way to describe Mormonism, is that it’s a 4th Abrahamic religion, with Joseph Smith playing the role that Muhammad plays in Islam and the Book of Mormon playing the role that the Koran plays in Islam. It’s based upon the Christian faith and the Jewish faith but it goes beyond them and it contradicts them." (Emphasis added)
"Contradicts them" is a matter of interpretation, doc. I'm just guessing, but you'll probably find contradictions among the philosophies of every protestant sect as well as Catholicism.
.... Still, there you have it! All those Mormons who have been invoking the name of the Risen Christ in word, song and prayer over the last 182 years must have been worshiping someone else! Perhaps Muhammad, doc?
Thanks, Doc, for setting the record straight. I am surprised you didn't demand the church drop "Jesus Christ" from its name.
To be fair, IF Romney were to be the Republican nominee, Dr, Land said Southern Baptists could vote for him -- even though he's not Christian.
And remember Pastor Robert Jeffress of the First Baptist Church of Dallas, who made that infamous introduction of Governor Rick Perry by slamming Romney as a member of a "cult?" Pastor Jeffress said he too would "hold his nose" and vote for Romney even though he's a member of a cult!
Such compassion. Such Christ-like love!
I am so grateful that others are so willing to tell everyone else what they believe.
They always know best.
I stand by my original assessment. America is not ready to elect a Mormon Christian as president.
