The change makes it possible for newly accepted freshmen and transfer students to defer enrollment for a maximum of seven consecutive semesters. The process will go into effect for the fall semester of 2013.
In a news release, the school announced Monday that the purpose of the process is to accommodate needs of students from extraordinary situations like illness, as well as military, humanitarian or religious service. Requests to defer admission will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Coincidentally, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced a change in age requirements for men and women who wish to serve as full-time missionaries during the October Semi-annual General Conference. Young men will now be able to serve aftte the age of 18 and women after the age of 19.
