The woman, Emily Martinez was found lying at the bottom of a fire escape at the Walker Building in downtown Salt Lake City. Police say Martinez was with a man near midnight.
“They somehow went up to the parking structure," says Dennis McGowan of the Salt Lake City police department.
McGowan says the couple went to the top of this parking structure and then ended up at a courtyard which lies between the Walker building and the parking structure.
“Some of this is still not exactly clear what their intent was why they were up there climbing,” says McGowan.
But it's believed they may have started going up a fire escape attached to the backside of the Walker building.
“He began to come down and then realized the female wasn't still with him,” says McGowan.
He says the man climbed back up to look for Martinez but couldn't see her.
“He came back down to the bottom of the building on the ground on the side of the building,” McGowan says. “She was not moving.”
Police aren't sure the distance of her fall and are still investigating. Police say the couple was at a night club located in the basement of the parking structure. At around 11:30 p.m. McGowan says they left the night club and headed to the top floor of the parking structure.
“There's a lesson learned here for the community, just don't do this type of thing,” McGowan says. “It's quite dangerous.”
